Space for Humanity - OHB SE at ILA 2022

Shaping the future of space technology – expanding the benefits for humanity

Berlin / Bremen, 21 June 2022. Space and technology group OHB SE will be present at Europe's largest aerospace exhibition, the ILA in Berlin, with an innovatively designed booth. Together with its international subsidiaries, OHB SE is showcasing its high level of expertise in the areas of Earth observation, security and planetary defence as well as digitalisation and new accesses to space. The Company's motto for this year's trade fair is "Space for Humanity".

When the international space community meets in Berlin from 22 to 26 June and ministries, space agencies, science and industry jointly present and discuss the latest applications and developments in space technology, it will become clear how strategically important the aerospace industry is for Europe's security, sustainability and competitiveness. With the main topics of sustainability and climate change, digitalisation and research, the focus of this year's trade fair is above all on the benefits of space flight for mankind.

From EnMAP to the megatrends in space flight

From the environmental satellite EnMAP (Environmental Mapping and Analysis Programme), whose launch in April marked the beginning of a new era in Earth observation, to the megatrends in space flight, OHB will be demonstrating at the trade fair the key role which the view and data from space play in all areas of our lives.

With hyperspectral images and the detection of natural and man-made CO2, satellites are making a major contribution to the fight against climate change. OHB offers protection and security with satellite systems such as Electra, OptSat, SARah or Hera. At the OHB booth in Berlin, guests will be able to find out about the advantages of an all-electric satellite, what radar has to offer over optical cameras and how our Earth can be protected from asteroids.

However, global navigation, telecommunications and climate monitoring are only possible if reliable launcher systems get the satellites safely into space. With MT Aerospace,  Rocket Factory Augsburg, OHB COSMOS and GOSA, four teams of the OHB family will be on hand at the fair to present their respective accesses to space.

Space experience

A special highlight of the ILA is the "Space Pavilion". Jointly staged by the European Space Agency (ESA), the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK) and the companies represented in the German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI), visitors will have the opportunity to experience space flight on an area of 1,400 square metres at the ILA. OHB SE is represented with five exhibits from current missions at this unique space exhibition, and OHB experts from all business units are going to contribute exciting insights at the "Space Stage" on all days of the trade fair. OHB CEO and BDLI Vice President Space, Marco Fuchs, is going to open the "Space Pavilion" on the first day of the trade fair together with ESA Director General Dr. Josef Aschbacher, DLR Executive Board Chair Prof. Dr.-Ing. Anke Kaysser-Pyzalla and DLR Executive Board member Dr. Walther Pelzer.
