Bremen, November 27, 2025 – "A strong signal from Bremen for the future of European space flight! We are delighted that the ESA Ministerial Council meeting in Bremen has approved a total budget of €22.1 billion for the next three years. This represents a further increase and is in line with the amount requested by the ESA Director General.
With a contribution of over €5 billion, Germany is confirming its leading role in Europe and is once again the largest contributor. In doing so, Federal Minister Dorothee Bär is underlining Germany's leading role in space activities.
A key focus is Europe's sovereign access to space: with over €4 billion for launchers and space transportation, Europe is ensuring the further development of launch systems and strengthening Europe's competitiveness in the global market. We are well positioned in this area with the companies MT Aerospace and Rocket Factory. Above all, the strong subscription to the European Launcher Challenge is a strong signal for the launcher market in Europe.
In addition, Europe is investing over €3 billion in exploration projects. This clearly shows that, alongside the USA and China, it is playing a leading role in the exploration and geostrategic use of space.
Overall, defense-related topics are moving into focus. The recently adopted German space security strategy and the ESA initiatives on resilience and security underscore the importance of protecting our infrastructure and Europe's technological sovereignty.
In addition, ESA's planned Earth observation missions will further expand Europe's leading role in Earth observation. Investments in the expansion of navigation programs will also significantly improve the precision and resilience of navigation signals.
These are extremely exciting times for space activities. We at OHB are ready to actively shape this future and play a decisive role in it."
