OHB Proposals for the Copernicus Project Selected by ESA

Ad hoc announcement pursuant to Article 17 of the Market Abuse Regulation (MAR)

Bremen, July 1, 2020

OHB System AG, a subsidiary of the Bremen-based space and technology group OHB SE (Prime Standard, ISIN DE0005936124), was selected today by the European Space Agency (ESA) as the prime contractor for the CO2M mission (CO2 Monitoring Mission within the Copernicus program). This mission involves the Copernicus satellites, which will measure global anthropogenic CO2 emissions and thus play a key role in investigating the causes of climate change and monitoring its effects. OHB System and OHB Italia will also be responsible for the payload on two additional missions (CHIME: Copernicus Hyperspectral Imaging Mission for the Environment and CIMR: Copernicus Imaging Microwave Radiometer) as subcontractors to Thales Alenia Space, responsible for the payload. The order volume resulting from today’s bid awards is expected to exceed EUR 800 million. Final contract negotiations will begin shortly, and the contracts are expected to be signed in the coming weeks.

Copernicus is a satellite Earth observation program run by the European Commission and the European Space Agency (ESA). It provides Earth observation data for environmental protection, climate monitoring, natural disaster assessment, and other societal needs.

The ESA’s Industrial Policy Committee (IPC) has also approved OHB System’s bid for the HERA asteroid defense mission for final negotiations. Work on the HERA mission has already begun. The estimated contract value for this project is approximately EUR 130 million.
