OHB System AG, a subsidiary of the Bremen-based space and technology group OHB SE (Prime Standard, ISIN DE0005936124), was selected today by the European Space Agency (ESA) as the prime contractor for the PLATO science mission. The contract is expected to be worth approximately EUR 297 million. Contract negotiations and the signing of the contract are expected to take place in mid-June.
PLATO (PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of Stars) is a medium-scale mission to study exoplanetary systems, scheduled for launch in 2026. Using a satellite-based observatory, the mission aims to detect and study planets orbiting other star systems. For the development and manufacture of the PLATO satellite, OHB System AG can rely on a core team consisting of Thales Alenia Space (France and the UK) and RUAG Space Switzerland.
