On top of the national satellite missions which have already commenced, DLR has launched a further initiative for lunar exploration. In this connection, OHB-System executed a phase 0 study for the Lunar Exploration Orbiter (LEO) mission on the basis of the Small Geo/Luxor platform in 2007. This involves high-resolution mapping of the moon and examinations of its physical properties with a view to executing manned and unmanned missions later on. With these national space initiatives for exploring the moon and Mars, Germany is further strengthening its industrial position in the European market.

DLR is going to great lengths to ensure an adequate position for Germany in ESA’s ExoMars program. Here, OHB-System is a partner in an industrial team lead-managed by Thales Alenia Space.
