The official announcement took place today in the presence of Michael Kretschmer, Minister President of the Free State of Saxony, Dirk Panter, Saxony’s Minister of Economic Affairs, and other distinguished guests.

At today’s event, Prime Minister Kretschmer stated: “OHB’s acquisition of the TechniSat plant is excellent news for the Vogtland region and all of Saxony. It secures jobs and strengthens our aerospace industry. This brings together two areas of strength: Saxony’s expertise in electronics manufacturing and cutting-edge achievements in satellite technology. I thank OHB for its confidence in Saxony as a business location.”

Job preservation

Dirk Panter, Saxony’s Minister of Economic Affairs, visited Schöneck in August 2025 and pledged to support the preservation of local industrial jobs. Commenting on the takeover by OHB, Panter said: “Today is a good day for the Vogtland region and for all of Saxony. I am pleased that OHB has chosen the Schöneck location. This will preserve industrial jobs, value creation, and expertise there. The acquisition will help strengthen the aerospace industry in Saxony, particularly promising startups. Future activities in Schöneck can also make a significant contribution to the technological independence and competitiveness of the German and European space industry. In addition, the entire economic region of Southwest Saxony Vogtland is expanding its sector mix, thereby positioning itself to be even more competitive and resilient to crises overall. I would like to extend my special thanks to Professor Andreas Knopp and his wife Mirjam Knopp from Bad Elster. Their tireless personal commitment and strong attachment to their home region have contributed significantly to this positive outcome.”

Stefan Kön, Managing Director of TechniSat Digital GmbH, added: “We took over the Schöneck facility 33 years ago, steadily expanded it, and have successfully manufactured entertainment and reception electronics for our customers here. Unfortunately, the conditions for manufacturing our products in Germany have not developed in our favor in recent years. That is why we decided this summer to relocate production to our plants in Poland. We are all the more pleased that, in OHB, we have found a buyer who will continue to operate the site and offer employees the opportunity to continue working in Schöneck. This aspect was particularly important to us during our search for a buyer and in the negotiations. We are convinced that OHB will continue to run the plant with success and foresight.”

For OHB, the planned acquisition of the facility is a step toward establishing industrial satellite and component manufacturing. Due to growing demand for satellites for various civilian and military applications, capacity is needed for the mass production of suitable electronic components for space use. For OHB, the choice of a production site in Germany is a deliberate decision aimed at establishing sovereign, national supply chains for critical satellite components.

Saxony as a European hub for microelectronics

Saxony is regarded as a European hub for microelectronics and possesses outstanding expertise in research, development, and production in this field. These established capabilities provide the ideal foundation for entering the mass production of aerospace components and for successful structural transformation in the region.

Marco Fuchs, CEO of OHB SE, emphasized: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to establish a presence in Saxony. Modern space technology, which consists primarily of satellite constellations, requires us to think in terms of entirely new production volumes. This means we need manufacturing expertise. The employees at TechniSat in Schöneck have the expertise to move directly into series production for the space industry. We look forward to reviving the Vogtland region’s space industry tradition in a whole new way.”

About TechniSat

TechniSat Digital GmbH, headquartered in Daun in the Vulkaneifel region, was founded in 1987 by Peter Lepper and is now one of Germany’s leading providers of modern electronic solutions in the fields of satellite reception, home entertainment, and e-mobility.

Through “EMS by TechniSat,” the company also offers comprehensive electronic manufacturing services—from development and production to logistics and final assembly—and supports industrial customers across various sectors in bringing their custom electronics projects to life.

With more than 1,200 employees and locations in Germany, Europe, and Asia, TechniSat stands for quality, reliability, and close partnerships with end customers, specialty retailers, and the industry.

TechniSat is a company of the LEPPER Foundation e.S.

[1

post-11520","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news
["GET
